Edward Thomas

Edward Thomas was an essayist writing about the English countryside in the early 20th century. Encouraged by his friend, the poet Robert Frost, he began writing poetry in 1914. He enlisted in the British Army in 1915 and was killed in 1917 not long after arriving in France. Although his poetry rarely deals directly with his experiences of World War 1, he is commonly considered to be a war poet.
