Sophie Hannah
Sophie Hannah was born in 1971 in Manchester. She was educated at the University of Manchester, where she studied English Literature and Spanish. Fellow Commoner in the Creative Arts at Trinity College, Cambridge, and a Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford, she currently teaches at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Writing School.
She also writes for children and is the author of several collections of poetry, including Hotels Like Houses (1996), which was awarded an Arts Council Writers’ Award, and Leaving and Leaving You (1999). In 2008 she edited an anthology of poems for young people, The Ropes: Poems To Hold On To, with John Hegley.
Her collection of poetry Pessimism for Beginners (2007), was shortlisted for the 2007 T. S. Eliot Prize. Sophie Hannah lives in West Yorkshire. In 2004, she was named as one of the Poetry Book Society’s ‘Next Generation’ poets.
